Me - R R R - y Christmas!
taking on a personal challenge of
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle
this holiday season.
and getting the kids on board too. we have been having a lot of discussions on the difference between reducing, reusing and recycling - and the hierarchy of prefer-ability here. our words became actions yesterday.
last year we spent time cutting circles out of our received holiday cards as they came down off the piano. (handy 2 1/2" circle punch was a big hit with the kids and the activity was a perfect quiet distraction for a post-holiday afternoon.) this year we are reusing them in the construction of some holiday balls (oh elementary school memories here!) - to hang along our diningroom light fixture. while i thought i would remember how to do this - when i sat down it escaped me. a tutorial was found here.
happy holidays!
cross-posting this from jumilla bugs - after being inspired by f.pea's last post, thought i would put this up, and see what other crafty ways you are using the 3 R's this holiday season!
YES! i knew there was a reason i saved all those old cards! i can't wait to make some of these.
ReplyDeletejust wanted to say that im glad there are blogs out there like yours , thanks.

OMG I made these at an after school program in elementary school. We got to go to the state capital building and put them on their christmas tree. So fun.

ReplyDeletelovely photo too.
they look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI too have cut circles from last years cards, but have then pasted them onto blank recycled cards to re-send them as my Christmas cards this year.
I'm desperately hoping that I manage to send someone their card from last year as a re-invention!
That's so cool! I remember my grandma helping my sister and I make those (we still hang them on our tree every year) years ago, but I've never seen them anywhere else... It really is a great way to employ the 3 R's this holiday season! Thanks for all your great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI am making little boxes the frount of the card is the lid and the back is the bottom.. When I have 25 boxes, I'll turn them into an advent calender.. (I have 2 kids so it's gonna be 50.) however you could attach string or wire to hang it as a suprise ornament..
ReplyDeleteI made some of these hangings 2, they look quite gd and r a great way 2 recycled..
